Forget Objective-C, Swift is here
Introduced in June 2014, Swift is a new programming language that will be the norm for development on Apple ecosystem. It is designed to be super-efficient in two ways : super efficient code, and, even better, super quick coding.
It directly generates binaries for Apple platforms (iOS on iPhone/iPad, and OSX on desktop), and is, as we believe, the natural replacement for Objective-C on the long term.
Code like never before
Swift main asset is that, while you're writing code, it is running at the same time. You'll see how many times a loop is running, what the current value of variables is, how variable content evolves (function plot). You'll even be able to browse back in time and see what the status of your program was a few minutes ago.
This means that you'll be, continuously, self-assessing your own code. You find errors sooner, you write better code ASAP.
Why should I consider Swift
Well, Apple is a leader of the mobile and Apps markets. As Apple decided so, sooner or later, native iOS development will be based on Swift. So if you are contemplating iOS (or Mac OS X) development, or if you are an Objective-C expert, now is the time to evaluate if Swift is a path you want to take.
Further, note that Swift perfectly integrates with all your current code (side by side with Objective-C), meaning you can transition smoothly, one library at a time, to Swift.
For that reason, Swift must be studied, analyzed and understood. Did we say you should transition today? Nope, you should see today how the market is evolving, and get ready for whatever the future has to offer.
What we offer
Since the announcement, most of our team has been working 24/7 to create the first prototypes, to integrate with our existing codebase, to study what it takes to move to Swift, to create trainings, etc.
Synapsis has long been a multi-platform development advisor ; we teach how to combine languages and platforms, and a major part of our business consists in helping companies make the right choice. Whether you'll need to use Xamarin for C# multi-platform code sharing, or to transition from Objective-C to Swift for native iOS development, these are dilemmas that we can help you with.
We are creating a large body of examples, tutorials, slides at each step of our Swift journey. We already have dozens of prototypes, tips & tricks to write code using Swift. With more than half our developers who transited to XCode 6 Beta to evaluate if we can migrate our current in-house projects, we have a knowledge that most companies don't have. Let us share this with you, and take a look at our next training.
